New Firebrick

Charlie Harrison and Jeff Tryka rebricked the firebox with all brand-new brick. They also had help from a nameless bucket brigade (brick brigade?) handing up bricks from pallets on the shop floor. All photos by Terry Thompson.

Charlie begins by making proper obeisance to the Fire Gods.

The great thing about volunteering to work on a steam locomotive is that it prepares you for lucrative careers, such as cake decorating.

After completion, the view through the fire door, looking to the front. Other visible artifacts include the top of a stepladder in the foreground and a vacuum cleaner hose coming through the front damper in the background plus a couple of electrical cords.

View from the throat of the combustion chamber, looking to the rear.
